LEON HURLBURT RUNNING FOR COMMISSIONER
I would like to officially announce that I have decided to file my candidacy for Huntington County Commissioner. After doing some very serious soul searching I have decided to turn my efforts to getting our community back on track. I would like to announce my committee members who will be running my campaign. Midge Decker and Dave Daugherty will serve as my co-chairmen. Becky Gerhart and Bob Straight will serve as my co-treasurers. I am extremely excited and very fortunate to have these individuals on my team.
I think that I bring the skills and foresight that are so very important to the office of commissioner. Many of you are aware of my long public service career in Huntington. But, more important is the business background that I bring to the table. Prior to dedicating my life to public service I spent 12 years in the private sector. I graduated from Ball State University in 1981 with a business degree in Finance. I started my career as an engineer trainee at the Marble Hill Nuclear Plant. From there I moved on to the Huntington Square D plant. My early training as an industrial engineer and in production management helped to develop the skills necessary to be a good manager and effective leader. I plan to build trust and be very transparent about your local government. I will facilitate ways to reinvent how we run our government. Also, we must remember what the private sector has learned long ago; (WE MUST BE ABLE TO DO MORE WITH LESS). I have the skills, passion and mind set to bring business sector principles to government.
My primary goal is to represent the people of Huntington and do the best possible job for them in the position of Commissioner. I want to run because I have a deep and genuine desire to make a difference in our community. I believe the best way for me to do that is to offer my skills and talents to the office of County Commissioner.
I will bring a professional approach to the office with a multitude of skills. The skills that I possess are good judgment, insightful decision making, management and administrative skills with a passion to do what is right and just. These skills are essential to being a good Commissioner and leader. I have dedicated my life to being a public servant.
I believe the core foundation of government is to represent the people. I am running because I want to represent their views and be their voice in county government. Also, I believe we must keep improving our efforts in economic development. In order to thrive as a community we must make every effort to attract new business and cooperate with our existing businesses to ensure a strong economic foundation. This is essential if we are to prosper and grow as a community. There is no easy solution to this challenge, but with hard work and commitment we can reach this goal. Actions do speak louder than words. By working together with a strong commitment to our families and community, we will make Huntington a better place to work and live.
Huntington, IN. – Huntington resident and small business owner, Ron Fusselman, officially filed his paperwork to be a candidate for the Indiana House of Representatives District 50 seat on Friday, February 5, 2010.
“I look forward to meeting the voters of the 50th District over the next several months. House District 50 does not belong to lobbyist and special interest groups, it belongs to the voters of Huntington and Whitley Counties and I intend to return it to them,” said Fusselman. “From my opponents votes to increase his salary and benefits to being only one of 23 representatives to vote against putting property tax caps in the Indiana Constitution proves he is out of touch with his constituents and chooses his own interests and the interests of the lobbyist over the people he is supposed to represent,” added Fusselman.
