Every Saturday for the last 30 years or so the president of the United States has made a brief address to the nation and the opposing political party has also offered up its version of the topic of the week. As usual President Barack Obama made his speech on Saturday, but the Republican response came from Indiana Eighth District Congressman Larry Bucshon.

This past weekend being Labor Day weekend, jobs, wages and work were the topics of both speeches. The president pointed out some economic successes that the nation has seen over the last several months. "This Labor Day we've got more to celebrate," said President Obama. "Over the past 53 months our businesses have added nearly 10 million new jobs. Last month, for the first time since 1997, we created more than 200,000 jobs for six straight months, and for the first time in over a decade, business leaders worldwide have declared, two years running, that the No. 1 place to invest isn't China - it's America."
