RIECKEN MIXING CAMPAIGN WITH OFFICIAL ACTIVITIES

Vanderburgh GOP Chairman Wayne Parke issued the following statement today concerning State Rep. Gail Riecken’s most recent instance of mixing her official activities with her campaign for mayor:

“Yesterday State Rep. Riecken sent out an invitation detailing plans to "bring her legislative office" to Evansville this weekend for meetings with constituents. However, at the very same time and place, Riecken's mayoral campaign is promoting on its Facebook page a campaign event, calling for residents to "come take a picture with Evansville's next mayor."

This doesn't pass the smell test.  It is clear that Riecken is using state resources to blatantly promote an event that is campaign related. Aren’t there ethics rules that prohibit an elected official from using her office to campaign? At a minimum, she is misleading her constituents into believing that these events are in her capacity as a legislator when in fact she is simultaneously billing them as campaign events.”
