STATEMENT: Kokomo mayor's failed leadership means millions in lost grants for state

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Republican Party Chairman Tim Berry issued the following statement today in response to FEMA’s announcement it would withhold millions of dollars in hazard mitigation grants due to the Kokomo baseball stadium being built in a flood-prone area:

"Each day since FEMA announced it would withhold millions of hazard mitigation grants in the state due to the Kokomo baseball stadium's construction in a flood-prone area we learn of another community that will be negatively affected by Mayor Goodnight's actions.  Most recently Fort Wayne officials announced that they are losing $1.1 million in FEMA mitigation grants. Goodnight put the stadium at risk, and now his bad decisions are creating roadblocks for other counties who rely on FEMA for these types of grants and other assistance.  The state also won’t receive any future hazard mitigation funding until the project is in compliance. Kokomo needs a mayor who respects the law and is willing to work with others to move the city forward, instead of Mayor Goodnight's blatant disregarding of the law and inability to compromise."
